In Brooklyn, a 17-year-old speeding Tesla driver lost control, causing a tragic accident. The vehicle vaulted the curb near Avenue M on Ocean Parkway in Midwood, fatally hitting a 54-year-old pedestrian.
The Tesla continued to spin out of control, striking a traffic light pole. The impact sent the pole crashing down onto a 24-year-old man sitting on a bench in the median.
Both victims were transported to Maimonides Medical Center. The older victim, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries, while the younger man sustained minor injuries.
The teen driver remained at the scene and was taken into custody. Charges against him are pending. NYPD officers are conducting an investigation to determine if another driver was involved in the crash but fled the scene before first responders arrived.
